In 1922, James Mitchell came to the United States to seek fame and fortune.

What he found was a job in his uncle’s restaurant in Jamaica, Queens. 16 years later, they had finally saved enough to open a luncheonette/ice cream parlor

in Valley Stream …and Mitchell’s was born.

In 1945, Mitchell’s moved to 170 Rockaway Ave and in 1961 moved to 191 Rockaway Ave. In 1995, the Drakopoulos family purchased Mitchell’s and in 2004 Mitchell’s Diner opened in Oceanside.

We have kept some of the old dishes

alive and added

some of our own as well resulting in a menu that reflects some of the most beloved American favorites while still staying current.

As one of the oldest ice cream makers on Long Island, Mitchell’s handcrafted ice creams, syrups and whipped cream are still made using recipes passed down through the generations with the freshest, finest ingredients available.

Our burgers are handcrafted Black Angus beef made daily by hand and cooked on our Char-broiler, delivering a burger you are certain to enjoy.

Thanks to your

continued patronage and loyalty, Mitchell’s Diner continues to serve Oceanside and the surrounding communities for over 80 years. Here at Mitchell’s it is our goal to always provide you with the very best food and service that we can.
